We liked everything about this place. This is a small family run hotel. They made us a good breakfast every morning. They were great! We really enjoyed our stay here. This is one of the nicest places in the village. If we ever had the opportunity to return we would stay here. Even for a long time. We are not too needy, nor very high maintenance. They just made us feel good. Oh -they have their own tour guide as well so you don't have to make any plans in advance nor feel pressured to plan tours with another hotel you may find on line. Just show up and they take care of everything at the same prices everyone else has. It is much simpler to do it this way.
Bathroom is too small Shower failed sometimes
We knew prior to coming that El Icaco was going to be "no frills" So it was actually better than I expected. We went on an early morning Tour of the canals and had to leave at 6am- we saw so much great wildlife That we didn't return until 10:00- breakfast was supposed to be over However we were served without question- we had 4 kids with us that loved the pancakes! Simple breakfast, but very nice setting. We loved the hammocks! The rooms Had two fans in each- very needed!!! The beach was right out the front door, and the busy part of town a short walk away. Great location, especially for viewing turtles.
It was a grat value, but was not fancy at all- so if you stay here- expect rustic, A step up from camping. There are no "fancy" places in town, so if that is what your looking for- find an all inclusive lodge!
Staff very helpful and friendly and buildings and grounds very clean.
water pressure in my room very weak
Great location on the beach. Has a hammock hangout and Benches in front of each room to hang out and enjoy the view. Was a great price to stay on tortuguero.
Do not book your tours through the hotel. They are only 5$ cheaper than the more educated guides and they do a horrible job! They barely speak English and seem to know almost nothing. Luckily, the views are gorgeous and there is wildlife everywhere to make up for their complete incompetency. Every time we asked them a simple question on the turtle walk the guy who worked for the hotel would answer "nobody knows" which was blatantly false, he just did not know.
Eric who brought the luggage by bicycle to the hotel. Location is good.
Very primitive. Toiletries means that they supply soap. Pictures are far from what they appear to be. It is on the beach and there is a lot of rainfall altogether in the area. There is no running water before entering the cabin and there is no way to keep the place clean. If you want to wash your feet you have to use te showereheaad above which can not be moved. The fan is an old and dirty fan that stands upright. It is very different than they wasy it is written up. The price is also higher that the other places in the area for comparable conditions, so also there you come out behind.
This is an ok place to stay - not terrible but not as good as it could be either! With a few small changes, this hostel could really improve it's standing on the island/amongst backpackers. On the plus side: you're close to the ocean, there are lots of hammocks you can read in, breakfast is included and was quite good, and the office is able to book whatever tours you'd like to do/shuttles you need. A few suggested improvements: replace some of the old mattresses (the springs were coming up through both of our mattresses), consider making tea & coffee available all the time (such a small, easy thing to do...instead of charging people for an extra cup of coffee in the morning, or having people go elsewhere for a cup of coffee/tea throughout the day), and fix the leak in the ceiling! (it dripped on my bed for two solid days!). Also...just an FYI...we stayed in a room across from the reception/kitchen area and found it quite loud in the morning (the noise starts around 5am...phone ringing, lots of people moving about, young children crying, etc.). I suggest ear-plugs!
Icaco is a cute, locally-owned place right on the beach and close to town. The staff there is incredibly friendly and you've got a great view of the ocean!
Great location, a few blocks from the "downtown" Tortuguero, so it's a little quieter. Nice hammocks to relax in and a decent breakfast.
Location is great, to stay in such a gorgeous surroundings for this price is a real treat!
It was not the most comfortable, but that's a small inconvenient that you have to assume anywhere at Tortuguero village.
Very low key and relaxing. Right on the beach - great! So many stars. Wish I could had access to telescope. It was great to have internet access. Great to have breakfast just right out side the door.
There was only one thing and it had nothing to do with the hotel. Most guests were great. One couple hung out of the hammocks and watching a movie on their tablet with the sound on. Not cool. Everyone else seemed to really soak up the relaxation of the place - except this couple. It was hard to relax with that going on. It was only one evening, but I was only there 2 nights.
El Icaco is a great place for staying when visiting Tortuguero. It is way too close from the ocean, which makes it great when walking down the coast and returning in no time to your room. The facilities are in great condition and the staff is very friendly.
great location, friendly staff, they arranged a nice guide to go on a Booked.net and canoe tour
dangerous shower breakfast is nice, but not much; all extras must be extra payed for
It was perfect! The staff did really made you feel welcome. It was clean and close to the beach. I decided to stay longer 3 times in a row
Great location, lovely room and good coffee with breakfast.
